+Could the notion that the speaker needs to be only a slightly more knowable or a bit less in some areas than the listener be a wishful thinking and avoiding the responsibility? A researcher might prefer to be surrounded by colleagues rather than students, and a parent might want to believe that the child already know without them having to teach, for their sake.
